Utilities
Our work within the utility sector includes GIS software around distribution, transmission, power planning, and mitigation and has also included the development of ruggedized tablet-based programs and supporting data structures to assist engineering and field staff with data collection.
Our understanding of the unique utilities regulatory environment means that we are aware of the special constraints and requirements of utility GIS solutions - meaning we can ensure that together we build GIS compliant solutions.
See below for a few representative case studies demonstrating our experience in the utility sector
- Accuracy from automation and on-the-fly Quality Control
- More data collected per day
- Reduced time required for post-processing
- Centralized data to one source
- Complete audit trail
- Improved staff coordination
- Increased operational awareness
- ROI exceeding 100% in the first six months
- Data being made available to the asset managers the next business day after collection
- Collect significantly more information in the same period of time
- Annual savings of $1.8 MM
Future Power Generation Impact - MB Hydro
We developed an ESRI ArcEngine Rapid Capture Application to support the collection of samples and the monitoring of erosion and sediment transport in the future power generation project areas of Wuskwatim, Keeyask, and Conawapa. Benefits of the award winning project include:
Wood Pole Mobile GPS Data Collection Project - Hydro One
As part of an organizational transformation aimed at improving the efficiency and accuracy of collecting and maintaining asset and asset condition information, we developed and deployed industry-leading applications that leverage GPS enabled mobile devices for the field force. This program has proven to be extremely successful with;
Anomaly Recording System - Airborne Energy Solutions
Every year pipelines are safeguarded through over 2 million kms of Visual Inspection.
The standard methods to collect condition information with pipeline companies, as with most organizations, requires field staff to record information on paper forms and to submit the forms for back office processing. Back office employees then enter the information from these forms into the asset condition system. This process has many inherent problems such as data input errors, input lag times of up to one year, and slow data collection process.
We carefully developed and designed an anomaly recording system so that a pilot while flying a pipeline solo, can quickly and efficiently gather information such as erosion, spills, vegetation corridor survey, wildlife, etc. and then that same day, synch this information into an asset condition system.
